Mrs. Diamond is a NASA/JPL certified educator and Executive VP of Education and STEAM enrichment for Programs After School Inc.
Enjoying her 8th year of business Programs After School Inc. has garnered recognition as The Best Art Studio in Thousand Oaks, California and was voted Best Enrichment Program in Conejo Valley.
Her unique brand of curriculum and delivery of mission-based content has won numerous awards from the State Assembly and Legislature, the Department of Interior and the Department of Energy. In early 2000 Andrea was awarded a recognition award by Colin Powel for her work with the American-Corp and an Anti-gang task force.
The same year she was featured in a well received parenting book called: Raising Compassionate, Courageous Children in a Violent World – Dr. Janis Cohn.
With over 30 years of classroom experience Andrea has perfected her delivery methods. Her unique teaching methods provide for advanced and multi-dimensional inspiration platforms blending Art, Science, Technology and Math. Andrea stresses the process shared by Artists, Designers and Engineers with her “Hands-On Brains-On approach.
The emphasis always on the fact that Failure is key to deeper learning. She has presented her novel methodology with enormously positive feedback at peer conferences for educators, school administrators and women in business. Affiliated with the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and the California Department of Fish and Game, Andrea is an active State and National Interpretive Guide. She currently serves as an education liaison officer of the Calabasas Historical Society.
She was elected to the Board of Directors of the Endeavour Institute in December 2011 and to the Board of Directors of Spotlight the Arts in June 2013; currently serving on both boards.
In December 2013 Mrs. Diamond was appointed Environmental Commissioner for the City of Calabasas.
Andrea led the science department at Oak Crest Academy for Gifted Children in Oak Park, California and presents her program called Science Paloosa for schools in the Las Virgenes, Conejo Valley and Oak Park school districts.
Andrea continues her mission of community outreach by hosting an her Annual “Family Space Days” where the venue ranges from public libraries to shopping malls.
Free to the public, parents come with their children to view Lunar samples from the Apollo missions along with meteorite samples she brings in from the Johnson Space Center. Her programs have been featured in local and national newspapers, The Acorn, LA Times, The Washington Times, The New York Times, Ventura County Star, Skirt Magazine for Professional Woman and more.
Apart from her experience and credentials in teaching science and art, Andrea is a terrific artist and enjoys every opportunity to inspire the youth with her captivating murals and science based themes.
She has a rare talent for grabbing the extraordinary breakthroughs in highly complex fields such as astro-physics, and bringing these to life for the infectious amazement and enrichment of the community. She created the mural below to illustrate the recent detection and measurement of graviational waves (predicted by Einstein), created by the merging of two black holes 1.4 billion light years away.
